I realize we have a few fans of tenor sax player Eric Alexander here on the forum. Let show our appreciation and list our favorite releases both as leader and as sideman. Of his earliest releases I really enjoy his Criss Cross releases "New York Calling" and "Full Range". On Delmark Records "Mode For Mabes" is also a very fine session. In all these cases Eric's isn't the sole horn in the lineup. On the 2 Criss Cross releases he's backed by trumpeter John Swana and on the Delmark trumpeter Jim Rotondi who has played on a number of Eric's sessions. More thoughts later. Let's get this thread moving.

I have about 15 of Eric's albums - but then he's made a lot! If I had to single out one as a favorite, I'd probably go for Nightlife in Tokyo. This review by Jack Bowers puts into words better than I could just what's good about Eric's playing: www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=13635#.UqR9l_RdX3o

Wow, I hadn't heard of Eric Alexander. I did a perusal of YouTube offerings and ran across this cover of the Trane's Lazy Bird.

I probably have about 12 Eric Alexander CD's with another dozen as co-leader and probably yet another 15-20 with Eric as a sideman. Yes, the man can really play.
These are my favorites
His most recent High Note release "Touching" may actually be my least favorite Alexander CD.

I'll second Bill's recommendation on Nightlife In Tokyo and would like to also suggest this title:

The Second Milestone & Mode for Mabes are my two favorites. I also really love his work with Pat Martino.
