Who, besides myself, dislikes cold weather?
Heck, I go outside to get the mail (long 50 foot walk) and when I get back into the house, every bone in this old body aches. I picked up this little Harmony guitar I'm rebuilding for my 3 year old grandson, had just restrung with nylon strings, and when I tried to pick a few tunes, every finger joint seemed to sieze up. Now, I'm not talking Minnesota or North Dakota cold - heck, this is Virginia. 30 degree F (0 degrees for you furriners) smiley-laughing024
I know when I was just a young whipper snapper (so long ago it seems like ancient history, cold weather didn't bother me as much as hot weather. In a little country in Southeast Asia back in the 60's, I remember wanting some real "cold" weather. As the old saying goes, be careful of what you wish for.
I heard a little story this morning, seems someone stated that on the coldest day on earth (record of -135.8 degrees F), it was painful to even take a breath - just wonder who was dumb enough to try that to see just how painful it was. smiley-laughing024
Anyway, the cold seems to affect every thing about me and my musical inabilities. I can't pick a guitar, can't pound a piano, can't blow my harp...and although I never could sing, it has really given my croaking old voice a new raspy sound.
Guess I'll just be like those old bears outside, get ready to hibernate.

I agree with you guys. Right now, I don't handle cold weather worth a flip. My heart "blowed up" back in May and I have to take a couple of blood pressure pills along with a blood thinner every day. Since then, I think I must be borderline going "female" or something. I stay cold all of the time. It was 23 this morning when I left for work....by the time the heater had warmed up in the truck, I couldn't hardly feel my hands. I reckon I'll have to start doing like my wife......go outside, start the truck, come back inside, watch the news, drink coffee, let the truck warm up, THEN.......go back outside and leave for my destination.
Next thing you know......I guess I'm gonna start getting bad cramps once a month, get really sensitive/cry a lot, have a desire to buy more shoes than I could ever wear.....and go to the mall shopping every couple of days.
I'm thinking these pills and cold weather have really changed my life.......bummer smiley-laughing024

The older I get, the more the cold hurts. Gimme the summer and the 90's anytime, it doesn't hurt to sweat! and the congregation said "amen"

Now this weather is really getting to me. Last weekwas cold, snow, and ice. Windy as all get out.
Now,the forecast is for this week to be in the high 50s to mid 60s. Now, don't get me wrong, my old body likes the 60s, but the constant ups and downs plays havoc on the arthritis.
And it can't be good for the guitars either. One day the humidity is @10%, the next 90%.

I remember the old superstitions about the first 12 days of the New Year - Each day represents the weather for each of the 12 months. So, if day 1 is cold and wet, the entire month of January will be cold and wet...likewise if day 2 is cold, so will the month of February be cold.
Based on the forecast here in SW Virginia, we are due to have an extremely cold February and March with the remainder of the year being cooler than usual.

We have falling temperatures - going to 0 degrees or below tonight with wind chills around a negative 20 degrees F.
Makes his old man's arthritis ache for sure!
Have to get the dogs in tonight and let them sleep on the floor in front of the fire. smiley-eatdrink004

I don't envy you with the cold. We have just had 3 or 4 weeks of winbds and rain that has caused a lot of flooding, brought lots of trees down and caused mayhem (for me as I work in Insurance!). They say we are due a cold snap too- nothing like what you guys have regularly but as we don't get it consistently, there is no preperation and the place goes to pieces. I've been in Scandanavia in the middle of winter and they keep going.

The native Americans had a sure fire way to predict the weather - called the "weather rock"
They would put a large rock outside the habitat. If the rock was wet, it was raining, if the rock was hot, the sun was shining, if the rock was cold, white and wet it was snowing...
and if the rock wasn't there, better look out, a big wind is blowing!!!

Well, we've managed to go through January (almost) and it's been one of the coldest we've had for several years. Today it's below zero for the second time here but finally there's relief in sight for the next couple of days. Supposed to get up to the 30's today and in the 40s for Friday and Saturday before the next round comes in.

The snow is on the way??? At least that's what the weather people are forecasting. but then again, they have missed it more than they have been correct...I hope!!!

Well, we ended up with around 18" of snow before it finally ended a few minutes ago. Now the wind is blowing around 30 mph and we're getting drifts. I haven't shoveled the driveway yet, thank God. By the time the sun shines tomorrow, we'll probably have 4-5 ft drifts.
But there's light at the end of the tunnel. Temps are supposed to rise to around 60 degrees F by next week.
