I can't believe I haven't created a thread dedicated to Jimmie Rodgers, who some consider to be the "Father of Country Music". Discovered by Ralph Peer and recorded at the famed "Bristol Sessions", Jimmie Rodgers hailed from the lower Mississippi Delta and was influenced by or influenced (depending on who you believe) by the likes of Tommy Johnson. John Jackson, performed as part of his repertoire, many of Jimmie Rodgers' songs. If you're not familiar with this artist, I recommend you buy a copy of this album. This 5 disc box set contains all of his recordings. There are other, less expensive albums available, but they omit one or two important recordings on each. You can look around and find perhaps two or three cds that will have most of his best works, but in this box set, you're getting all of Jimmie Rodgers.

I like quite a bit of his stuff and have done a couple of his tunes once in awhile, like "He's In the Jail House Now" (Which I learned from John Jackson). (Although I never added any yodels!)
I give him a lot of credit for when he became popular enough to have some "pull" with RCA-Victor, he insisted on using some Black session men for many of his recordings. (Prior to that Blacks generally recorded on "Race Recordings" which were aimed at a Black audience.)
