What are some of your favorite Joe Henderson releases? For me, "Mode For Joe". Most notably the track "Caribbean Fire Dance" and the solid work of Lee Morgan on that particular track. Knocks me out every time.

I must admit, I'm not a hard bop fan but I did listen to a few of his cuts, and I kinda like some of the tracks on Our Thing. Interesting guy. A little of Bird and a bit of originality to me. I will make it a point to check out some more tracks on Spotify.

Well, 2 of my favorites have already been mentioned - Mode for Joe and the Big Band CD.
But here are 2 more than I really enjoy.
The presence of Wynton Marsalis on Lush Life might be a turn-off to some, but don't dismiss it because of that. It's excellent, IMO.

I really dig Joe- especially "In 'N Out" and "Page One", his Milestone work ("We made every possible kind of album- except a hit" to quote Orrin Keepnews). His later Verve interpretations of Jobim & Gershwin are equally wonderful. In short, it's impossible to choose.

Another vote for the Joe Henderson Big Band. I was quite surprised just how much I enjoyed it considering it was a later recording. His Blue Note releases are all worth owning, IMO. A different take on his Blue Note output is this compilation 4 disc set which features some of his session work on some of his fellow label mates recordings. I own it.

Some of my favorite Joe Henderson is on dates under different leadership. Some of them are represented on that compilation above: The Real McCoy (McCoy Tyner), Black Fire (Andrew Hill), Basra (Peter LaRoca), Song For My Father (Horace Silver), One Entrance, Many Exit (Mal Waldron).
Among his albums as a leader, I also really enjoy Mode for Joe, along with Our Thing, Page One, Inner Urge, and Joe Henderson in Japan.

The Milestone recordings are his best work, in my opinion. The box set of his complete Milestone recordings is essential.
