12 months into my harp experience now & am both surprised & delighted that my enthusiasm grows by the blow.
My work mates & friends probably think i have had a blow to the head but really i reckon some are just jealous that i have stuck at it & can now make some comprehensible noises. To be fair to the wife she is very patient & is pleased that i have a pastime which keeps me from under her feet but within earshot.
I had to admit last week that my first proper harp ( Hohner MS Pro Harp in C) gave in to the abuse i made it suffer & the lower notes scream like a sinking ship. So it was decision time , what to replace it with, i wanted another in key of C.
The ProHarp was OK but did not want to swap like for like. Not really seen much comment on this particular model but i thought there could be other harps better suited to my limited experience.
I got sucked into wanting different makes/keys in the last year & have accumulated
Lee Oskar in A
Suzuki Bluesmaster D
Hohner Crossover in Bb
The Crossover is wonderful to my ear & i now get what others say when referring to 'more responsive' & 'warmer tone'. The look & feel are just great as well.
I made my mind up & today took delivery of a Suzuki Manji in C. Similar in looks to the C/O but seems considerably heavier & initially needs more work on both blow & draw to get the required sounds, but it is very early days & i am sure that within the week i will be getting the neighbors banging on the wall.
I envy players in the States where Harps seem so much cheaper than in the UK.
Now then what key shall i get next? Fancy having the traditional Marine Band to see how long that will last in my lunatic grip.
Trouble is i have the bug. - Keep smiling
