I was prodding the internet yesterday and came across these limited edition budget parlour guitars made by Gretsch. There's a couple of demos on Youtube where they sound jolly nice & for the low price I'm very tempted to take a punt on one. I just wondered whether anyone had played one and and if so how they found it?

Pete, since I don't have a Gretsch dealer locally, I haven't had a chance to mess around with this one. But I did check the specs at Gretsch Guitars and it seems the body is made from agathis. In further researching agathis, it seems this is a wood in the evergreen family, similar to alder. Now I know alder isn't a real good tone wood, tends to be a little stiff and if you have to change the strings from the "lights" that come with it over to a heavier string, you may run into neck issues. I don't see a truss rod on this.
But, for under $200 around 100 Pounds Sterling, you can't go too far wrong...after all it is a Gretsch.

I've taken the plunge - for the price I figured it was worth a punt!
Will report back when it arrives!
