Do you use scales as part of your guitar playing? By this I mean, do you consciously think about playing a pentatonic, modal, etc. scale or do you just play the notes as you hear and feel them?
Now we know music is based on some scales and key signatures, and that, for example Blues are played using a basic blues scale. But do you consciously think about the scale and equally important, do you practice scales as part of your routine?
I admit, I played for many years before I knew what a Pentatonic scale was...used it almost exclusively, but never heard anyone refer to it as a Pentatonic scale. I just played a Boogie in G or E without thinking, but as I matured in the music world, it became part of my practice routine.

I am totally ignorant as to musical terminology. I have found that I do play blues scales and the "B.B. King box . but I didn't realize what I was doing. Most of this music stuff is over my head.I try not to worry with it and play the notes that sound right.
