I once had a Basie compilation CD on Blue Note I think but its long gone sadly. So now I want to get some Basie back in my life. Where to start? Whats your fave album?

I was going to list 4 (overdoing it, as usual), but Bill's already listed one of my choices. (I don't consider the Atomic Mr. Basie to be at all controversial - a great album IMO). Anyway, you could start with any of these four and you wouldn't go wrong. If I had to choose one, it would probably be "At Birdland" because of the fantastic live sound. Listen with headphones and you'll think you're sitting in the trombone section!
