I guess this is the 1st thread I've ever started on this board......so don't expect much out of it. Besides my love for music, I have a real attachment to bird life. I've been feeding hummingbirds for almost 20 years at our house. Most of the hummers are leaving and heading south so the feeding is slowing down a little bit. Up until last week, my birds were eating over 48 ounces of food per day. Every afternoon I would have to prepare 2 - 24 ounce feeders of food and get those feeders hung quickly. It was not unusual to see 30 - 40 birds flying around the feeder, fighting one another, and making a bunch of racket. Yesterday morning, me and the wife were sitting in the living room watching TV (no....it was not re-runs of the Jerry Springer Show) when I heard a big hit to our front storm door. I went over, opened the door, and saw this little feller lying laying on the porch. Janet went over and started trying to get him to wake up. He had flown head first into that storm door and had knocked himself out. We kept messing with him for about 20 minutes. He finally got his legs back and his head cleared up a little bit. Seemed like a good, ole boy. I don't know whether he had been drinking too much moonshine the night before......but I did tell him (before he flew off) that he may want to consider getting hisself a football helmet or something to protect his noggin........(I probably shouldn't have mentioned that to him.....as hard as he hit the glass.....with a helmet on....he'll more than likely bust the glass out of the door next time.....hehe)

I love the birds in the fall...particularly the doves and quail...but it's more about the sport of hunting...sorry.

We have 5 bird feeders and one hummingbird feeder on our back deck. Usually only have 4 or 5 hummingbirds and they do drink a lot.
My wife had me add an 8X8 section on the back deck just for bird feeders! We have a squirrel family that eat from there too.
That head banger looks like maybe a female gold finch?

That head banger looks like maybe a female gold finch? Yep......that's what I'm thinking although I don't know if it was male or female. I know that little feller had a headache from whacking the storm door so hard. I wasn't about to look or mess with the other end.......hehe I will say that it was a really mild mannered little bird and quite different looking than most of the others around these parts. I'm sure glad it didn't get knocked out over at JP's house. There'd be gold feathers scattered everywhere, 2 slices of white bread missing from the loaf, and Dukes Mayonnaise all over the front of James's shirt....... (just messing with you, JamesP) Have a good'un

Plus, ol' Blue ain't too good at pointin' them gold colored birds anyhow. [laughing] I have feeders all around my yard too, but the squirrels get more of the bird seed than the birds I think. By the way, has anyone noticed the hummingbirds are scarce this year?

"Hand me that .410 shotgun o'er yonder"Voodoo once told me that you would eat escargot.....now a grown man what would use a toothpick to dig a snail out of his shell and pop that in your mouth......eating a "gold finch" would be like a Thanksgiving Dinner. Hummingbirds----scarce? Heck fire, they've all been homesteading over here at Route #3, Mt. Pleasant, NC. [laughing]

We had 2 large parent and 13 baby wild turkeys parade through our yard a couple weeks ago twice. I wish I had gotten photos of them. One parent led the babies and the other followed up in the rear. My grandson tried to get close to them against my order and one of the parents chased after him.
