Bluegrass music was derived from the early acoustic country music of the Appalachian mountains. Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs who were associated the Bill Monroe in the early days and went on to a great career on the Opry and in Bluegrass music. Here's one great little tune that epitomizes the merging of folk and appalachian music into bluegrass:
