I like 1 - 11/16 or the std. Fender 1-5/8 although it is slightly larger at 1.651". No real preference on shape as long as not too "skinny", I have medium to large necks and am fine with those.

It's funny, but I really have no idea beyond picking up some guitars & liking the neck & picking up others & disliking it. Perhaps I should pay more attention.
I do generally like slightly smaller necks I can get my thumb round & shorter scales.

No one has mentioned the fingerboard radius and I think that is the most important factor in the feel of a neck.
I like the 1&11/16" standard size, but a recently purchased an acoustic a bit wider. This has mafe me reappraise the standard width as in it's not so much what you like- more a case of what you have tolerated.
I also have a hand made Roger Giffin "Strat" neck that I stipulated "narrow vee" and he made a narrow neck, about 1&5/8" as I recall, could be smaller- I'd have to measure it again. It was even 1/16" too narrow for the pocket! I tolerated that for years until I replaced it with a Warmoth. 'Nuff said.
Regarding the thumb-over; that was beaten out of me at the outset back in 1971. It's verboten for the rudimentary classical training I had. They couldn't bash using my pinky as a crutch out of me though, but I had to get by without it during the exams.
Overall, "Vee" sections feel best in my hand, at least at the cowboy end. I think that's what Warmoth call "boat neck".

Good comments. I guess my preference is somewhere between the "C" and "U" shapes. The early Telecasters were probably more of the "U".
