I think my dad would be surprised? Impressed? Think it's funny? That I'm a fan of ol' Blue Eyes. I was never into that stuff as a kid but now I love it.

I had an interesting conversation with a young man about 10 years ago re: Sinatra, and this lead to a disagreement on another Forum on what "genre" of music Frank sang. Crooners came out of Jazz. There is no doubt. Bing Crosby was with "The Rhythm Boys" and "The Paul Whiteman Band" and did work with Bix Beiderbecke and Louis Armstrong. Sinatra followed suit, and much of his discography was Jazz related or had Jazz roots. Yes, much of his work is in the sub-genre of "American Standards" or "The Great American Songbook", but the roots are Jazz. About 10 years ago, a young man asked me if he could see my Jazz collection as he was interested in Jazz and wanted to see some of the artists I had in my collection. I have about 500 Vinyl, about 1200 CD and about 50 Cassette. The rest (about 2,000 albums) are in FLAC digital format. His interest was Vinyl and CD, so that's what I let him look at. He goes through my collection looking at a few here and there until he finds Sinatra "At the Sands with Count Basie". He says, "You've got Frank Sinatra in a Jazz collection?" I say, "Yes, of course. He's Jazz, especially THAT album with Count Basie at the Sands". He shakes his head and says, "Not to me he's not Jazz." So I say, "Well, what kind of music did you think Sinatra sang?" He says, "OLD music, man, he sand OLD music!" So I tell this story on another forum, and a guy takes the side of the young man and tells me the kid was right, and that Sinatra did NOT sing Jazz. Rather than argue, I posted, "OK, well you had better inform WUCF, WDCB, WBGO, CJRT, WLRN, WCBE, KPLU, KKJZ, KSDS, KCSM and the rest of the North American Jazz Radio Stations, because ALL OF THEM PLAY SINATRA! What's he going to say, that all the the premier Jazz radio stations in North America don't know what Jazz is?
