I hear there is a photo around of SBWII playing a Hohner "Old Standby" harmonica. Was this the typical "upgrade" from the Marine Band?
Does anyone have a vintage Old Standby. I seem to recall seeing them for sale at a General Store in Tennessee back in the 40s.

The old standby was a bit cheaper in cost than the marine band so a lot of the old blues men played them. They didn't have a lot of money to spend on harps. Charlie McCoy started with the old standby. My first harp was an old standby given to me by my Dad who also always played the old standby. In fact my Dad liked the old standby much better than the marine band. I have a couple vintage old standby harps. They are good harps. The first one I bought was $2.50 or $3.00.

Sarge sent me a couple some time ago. Nice harp, at least as well made as a comparable era Marine Band I'd say.
