Happy Birthday Tom Fogerty - In memory of this date, listening to CCR and their hit LODI
This is a reflection on John Fogerty's days with The Golliwogs, an early version of Creedence Clearwater Revival. They had to struggle for success, playing wherever they could with dilapidated equipment and an often indifferent audience. He did not want a return to the Bad Old Days. (thanks, Brad Wind - Miami, FL)
Lodi is a city in California located in the central valley, about 30 miles south of Sacramento and 75 or 100 miles east of San Francisco/Oakland. Fogerty and his earlier band often performed in "nowhere towns" like Lodi.
Fogerty sometimes covered this at concerts after he became a solo artist. (thanks, Brett - Edmonton, Canada, for above 2)
Drummer Doug Clifford claimed the band played a show in Lodi: "There were 9 people in there, they were all locals, they were all drunk and all they did all night was tell us to turn it down."
Al Wilson recorded this. His version was issued on Soul City Records in America and on Liberty Records in the United Kingdom. It was played extensively in the few underground "Northern Soul" clubs of England during the late 1960s and early 70s, getting its first exposure at the famous Twisted Wheel Club Allnighters in Manchester, England. (thanks, Gra - stafford, England)
In a radio interview, John Fogerty said when he was young his parents took him and his brother to camp at Lodi lake (called Smith lake then) and they hated camping there. So later on they wrote a song about Lodi using their old hated for the place. (thanks, george - stockton, CA

Not what you would call Rock N Roll but I've been listening a lot to Pink Floyd of late. mainly due to work induced stress and I needed something to chill out to and this does it for me. Yet another remastered version of DSOTM has been available since 2011 and there is a double CD with the life version ofthe album from 1974. The quality is superb and hits the spot.
I also discovered an american band called Local Natives. A great album called Hummingbird.

Thanks for posting Steve. I can now proudly say I've been exposed to the Local Natives......wait a minute... perhaps I need to say that in a different manner. With all of the "sex crimes" and such reported each day from all over the world, folks could get the wrong idea from my above statement....lol
They certainly sounded different from the way they looked. The lead singer has that Frankie Valley thing going where he can get "falsetto" faster than a cat licking his hine-end. I really liked the way the drummer and bass player worked together. Without it being a full-blown drum kit, I thought they did a good job of filling up the bottom end. Last thing I'll mention, that's got to be the "litlist" keyboard I've ever seen in my life. We always had to lug around one of those Yamaha electric grand pianos, a Hammond B3, and a Leslie. This keyboard, you could walk in with it under one arm and a 6 pack under the other!
Enjoyed it.....(although a long way from Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys)

I'm glad you like it Steven. I would say that it is somewhat removed from what I would normally go for but I heard them playing live on a radio programme and was mesmerised by the sound. I don't normally "take a punt" and buy an album on the strength of one song but for some reason I did and I am very pleased as I think the sounds they make are great.
Ah Jim- back on earth with a bit of Eddie Cochrane- I never tire of Eddie.
