I gave up playing professionally many years ago. But the years playing in smoky, loud venues have taken a toll. Or at least contributed to some health issues I'm sure.
How many here have experienced gigs where the environment was less than desirable?

I started playing out after Houston instituted its smoking ban so that has generally not been a problem. I did a gig at the beginning of the month way out of town where the singer was smoking some, but she was far enough away that I only caught a few whiffs of it. The gig was outdoors and I had my blower fan blowing on me as well. But my wife and I went to many gigs over the years at very smoky places. We'd come home and smell just awful. We used to wear contacts, and there were times when I came home and could barely keep my eyes open. I thought I was tired, but when I took out the contacts my eyes felt fine! We used to have one of those ozinator air filters. I don't know if it helped the air in the house, but I did find that putting those clothes by it overnight got rid of the stink. BTW, I did document the gig that was at the beginning of July on my blog. The heat was definitely less than desirable!
