Having played a Gibson J45, Martin D28, Epiphone and Grammer. All were pre-1968 models with spruce tops.
Now, my question is this: Do you think the grain opens up over time giving a spruce flat top better tone?
My vote is yes...on all of these it seemed that the more they were played, the richer the tone. Perhaps it was the amount of being played...

I think the amount an acoustic is played matters greatly to the instrument..... guitars, wood acoustic instruments, have to be played....

Only one big problem I can see with the high end guitars.....humidification......one has to be diligent about it... I have huge problems with my Guild, but she still sounds good....
