I was scanning through the guitar offerings at Amazon.com and ran across this Gibson product. Now I know nothing about the Gibson low-end products, but I surmise they aren't really worth much since the price is so small. But the reviews seems to contradict this? Unfortunately, my local "Gibson" dealer has gone out of business so I can't just drop by and check out the offering. Does anyone have an idea of the quality-playability of this guitar/amp? www.amazon.com/Gibson-Maestro-Cutaway-Electric-Accessories/dp/B002ZDOFAG/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1502738363&sr=8-16&keywords=electric+guitarAlso, as you look at the Amazon page, note the Epiphone package which is just a bit more expensive but seems to offer two humbuckers and a few more accessories. www.amazon.com/dp/B00A6D50L0?psc=1Just so you guys know, I'm not looking to buy myself, but I have two grandchildren who are coming up and I hope to pass along what little I know to them before I kick the bucket. So I thought I'd get them a decent inexpensive beginner guitar set so they could begin to practice. Now before you start to rant about how I should go try these out, I'm using Amazon because I'm too freakin' old to drive to the Gibson guitar store and too darn lazy to go shopping at the local Fender store. What do you think?

There are a number of one star reviews.
For better or worse, it's not hard to get good, cheap gear nowadays. I buy stuff from Monoprice.com, and they sell lots of pro audio and musical stuff now, most of which is highly rated. I mean, cheap saxophones? They don't compete with top of the line ones, but they are reportedly great for beginner models and even for road use I guess. I suspect Gibson is doing something similar here. The stuff is probably built in China, which is inexpensive but can be good (iPhones are built in China...).
All that being said, I'd check out what Sweetwater has and call them. They would take care of you. Amazon can be good, but if this package wasn't good, a Sweetwater rep would steer you to something better.

I have the 5 and 15 watt tube combo guitar amps from Monoprice and really good for the money. These are pretty much the same as the Laney Cub and 15R series amps other than cosmetics.
