Do any of you guys own Mosaic #129 - Complete Benedetti Recordings of Charlie Parker? It's on last chance...my gut instinct is that I don't need it and would be adequately served by other recordings. Or is it something that a Bird fan should get?

Tom: I can't answer because I don't have it. Yet I have the same question. My gut instinct though is the same as yours. Unless you are a Bird fanatic who has to have everything he recorded, you are probably well served by the other recordings.

John, thanks for the feedback. I decided against it. Don't doubt that there's great playing, but solos only / wonky sound quality / snippets says "completists only" to me. My Bird collection is still small enough that I could easily spend the equivalent sum of money on "conventional" recordings (with bands) that I'd wind up listening to much more often.

Well, I used the money saved by passing on the Parker/Benedetti to purchase the Tristano/Konitz/Marsh Mosaic on eBay. All three of the latter principals are sorely under-represented in my collection, and the all-in cost (shipped) was nearly the same (actually $1.50 less).

I am a Bird fantastic and bought the Dean Bennedetti set when it came out. It's a great back story but I find the set to be pretty much unlistenable. It's all fragments, and in poor sound. I've listened to the set twice since I bought it. There are many other live Bird recordings that are a far more satisfying musical experiences.
