As i get older I think more and more about the past - like what we use to capture in the "Family Album"
The Family Album
Copyright by James Ronald Pate - February 15, 2017
I pulled the family album
Down off the highest shelf
Right beside the family Bible,
That one my Mama Left
As I opened up the pages
A tear came to my eye,
There's my Mama and my Daddy
Just before my Daddy died.
(Refrain)
It's more than just an album,
It’s the picture of our life
Some of them in color
Some in black and white,
Just like our family bible
They are our family tree
Captured there upon this page
For all of you to see.
From my childhood there's a picture
of my brothers, now all gone.
When we played out in the cornfields
All tanned by the summer sun.
And there's one of you and your Daddy
Sitting in your yard,
Watching the kids play baseball
And playing with the cards.
(Refrain)
So many family pictures,
Of our children now all grown
And the ones of all their children
Who made this house their home.
As I close the family album
I know with all my soul
I’m leaving them the memories,
Of a life worth more than gold.
