Jo is getting a Gibson J15 and a new sugar bowl. I'm getting a new harp case, a mic, and a couple of harps! Watching the mailbox now.....

Jo got her J15 yesterday. It's supposedly used but we can't find a blemish anyplace! She tells me this guitar came out of the case already in tune. Nice low action. Rings like a bell! She's in love! I got one harp the other day, the Suzuki low D chromatic. Great harp! And the new harp case is here. Fender Tweed look. Red velvet inside!
Tax time, wow.

We had the Gibson looked over by a guy at the oldest guitar shop here in Tulsa today and he liked it a lot and verified it's the real deal.
I got my low C Manji harp today too. It's amazing.

Camera is on the outs. Have to say though, the guitar sounds really great as do the two harps. We did a rehearse of some of the sets we're going to do in 2 weeks at the place here and everything gelled nicely. Tuesday evening we're going to set up downstairs in the community room and try it out live. Big Fun!

It was a good rehearse live and plugged in downstairs. We're taking a couple of acoustic sessions this week to get the fine polish laid on. The Gibson sounds great through the tube amp and so do the new harps through the Shaker dynamic mic. I did find out it's a medium impedance, which means with an impedance matching transformer it could be very hot. But it sounds nice the way it is and I do have a hot mic anyway. We'll do a medium hot set to start and then plug in the hot mic for some wake-yer-ass-up material to finish.

Dylan 8) Driftin' Blues- not sure who 9) Nobody Knows You (When You're Down and Out)- not sure who 10) Deep Root Blues- original J&J 11) Big Boat- From B. Guy/J. Wells Alone and Acoustic
12) The Corner of Love and Hate- original J&J 13) Maggie's Farm- B. Dylan 14) St. James Infirmary- No idea who! 15) Boom Boom, Out Go the Lights- J.L. Hooker 16) Folsom Prison Blues- J. Cash 17) I Hate To See The Evening Sun Go Down- B. Smith or Memphis Minnie 18) You Down the Road- original J&J 19) John Henry- No idea who 20) Love In Vain- R. Johnson 21) My Babe- W. Jacobs 22) See See Rider- B L Jefferson I think!
A few extras in case we need them- Bright Lights, Big City- J. Reed Not Fade Away- B. Holly( early Stones twist) Backwater Blues- No idea but Old! Shake Rattle and Roll- Big Joe Turner Twin Steel Rails- original J&J
It's a 2 set show, which we're liking better than 3 or 4 sets even if the $$ is better for longer shows. Setup and teardown and stow the gear is a major drain lately although we've got it down to the minimum. Acoustic is nice and when a joint has sound and a sound guy it's a plus. It's very near time to get out on the street again and talk to prospective venues and get some more business drummed up!

Great gig list Brother! Oh to be a fly on the wall!
I would give credit on John Henry to Deford Bailey (just because...)

Mr. Bailey did a wonderful thing there. I do a bit of harp work but concentrate on the verses. It's to me an early protest song. It falls into some of the great themes of our time: Man against Man, Man against Nature, Man against Self. I suppose someone could do a discussion on that. Those are the three underlying themes in all great literature and I see them in song lyrics as well.

I got the Shaker mic in time for that last gig. It was pretty good sounding but as I researched further I discovered it is a medium impedance mic. So not as hot as I had hoped. Further research and a conversation with Shakey Joe, in Harrison AR, owner of Shaker Mics, got me a new cable and an impedance matching transformer. I will be testing the new setup live on Saturday, our return date at Burn Company BBQ here in Tulsa.

Tried the Shaker mic Saturday at the BBQ gig. I could tell it would get way louder than it had been but we like to keep volume fairly low, since it's not a huge room and we like folks to be able to chat while they eat lunch. I think I may try it at a jam before long and see how loud it will get.
