We just bit the bullet and got tickets for his show here in Tulsa in June. He's at the big hall at River Spirit Casino, June 14th. He pretty much single handedly revived Rockabilly and went firther, to bring Big Band Swing to a new generation. Still going strong after 3 decades!

Thursday- that's tomorrow- we are going to a casino to catch Mr. Setzer on his latest tour. Not sure if the orchestra is on this show or not but either way it should be a killer time for Jo and me!

So we got ready and headed down to the casino for the concert with Rockabilly Riot. The hall there at Margaritaville holds about 4000 people at full capacity and it was maybe 3500 tonight. At 8:00 SHARP out came the band! Brian has a piano/guitar guy on board with the great drummer and upright bassist. So 4 guys. And what an amazing amount of great music came out, I am still amazed. He opened with a sort of rockabilly Wildwood Flower and the band joined in right after. They did a few of the venerable oldies like Stray Cat and Rock This Town. And even Folsom Prison Blues! And a lot of classic rockabilly I was not familiar with but it all was great. A good part- most- of the time, Brian was the only guitar and he filled the room, believe it. He switched between 3 guitar, his signature Gretsch, a hot rodded hollow body, looked like maybe a Gibson 335, and a sparkly green guitar, hollow body, no idea what flavor. All were major weapons in the master's hands. The whole band was tight as my favorite watch. Yet Brian took such liberties with guitar parts it was totally engaging all the time. His voice and his moves are as good as ever. He totally engaged the audience from the mic between songs, and his vocals were spot on yet loose and exciting. All members got a bit of spotlight. The piano guy was a real deal rockabilly player and he did some really nice rhythm guitar as well. Everybody backed Brian's vocals as well. All in all it was quite a night to be out with my baby Jolene.

Was the piano player Kevin McKendree? He plays with Delbert sometimes, had been his primary keyboard player, and has been playing with Setzer a lot lately. Also, There were videos of Kevin's kid a few years ago playing some killer boogie-woogie, I can't imagine how good he is now. I recommend looking for clips of him, too.

That's him Joe. A major asset, as if Brian needed one, but Mr. McKendree is a great fit. I'll get a look at his son in a bit.
We still have that kind of post show ahhhhh feeling this morning! Won't forget last night any time soon!
