I know nothing about Warren Vache, but he's leading a quartet in my general area (little over an hour's drive) next week: Details here
Any opinions on whether I should make the trip (and spend the money)? He seems well-regarded, but the music might be a bit swing-oriented for my taste. It is a venue I've been meaning to visit.

It's true Warren comes from the swing side of things, but he has recorded with bop and hard bop musicians such as on the above (there are even some bop tunes on that excellent CD). I saw him a few years ago with Harry Allen and a modern straight-ahead (not swing) rhythm section and enjoyed it. Looking at the website, I notice that the musicians in the trio seem to be fairly bop/hard bop oriented and even beyond, from what I know of them (which is not much, admittedly). I would think the music on the evening will be pretty straight ahead.

Thanks, John. The drummer (Tabbal) is versatile, often plays locally in a more out/avant-garde setting (I recall with Marilyn Crispell, for instance). Not familiar with the other two, but the pianist (Di Martino) often records on Venus, so I'd expect him to be straight-ahead, more bop/hard-bop than swing; the bassist (Menegon) has played with a whole bunch of people from Burrell to Braxton. All musicians have super-solid credits.
I'll try to make this one if scheduling works out. Agree that the music should be mostly straight-ahead. Anything more "outside" would even be a plus to me.
[Added: I'd ordinarily investigate via allmusic.com, but recently prefer to avoid it because of frequent redirection to phishing sites.]
