en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lazy_LesterLester just passed the other day. He had some songs very dear to me, Rainin' in My Heart and I Hear You Knockin' among my favorites. Lester had that indefinable swamp sound that not many who didn't grow up in the deep South have ever achieved. Lester made something of a living playing and singing and doing percussion and guitar from time to time. He was not a huge success but absolutely cemented a place in the firmament with his unique and attractive laid back style on harp and vocals. I think he was happy doing just what he did and for that reason I consider him a hero and mentor of mine. Never one of the big harp dogs but he definitely had a place and always will, as a swamp blues innovator. His last appearance was just recently on a Geico insurance commercial, where he interrupts the little lizard with a harp lick over and over until the lizard gives up. Very humorous. Another totally unique and sweet musician gone.
