I'm sitting in the Kroger parking lot last night, waiting for my wife to finish shopping. As I sat there watching people coming and going, some speeding down the street trying to make the traffic light, some screeching into the first available parking spot, I got the inspiration for this song. Haven't tried to put the melody to it yet so I'd love to hear how the lyrics feel to you folks.
Hurry Up and Wait
By: Jim Pate (September 22, 2018)
V1
I'm speeding down the street
Trying not to be late
It's today's way of life
Gotta hurry up and wait!
(Chorus 1)
Hurry up and wait
Just hurry up and wait
Forgot the reason why
But I'll hurry up and wait.
V2
I recall back in school
I just wanted to graduate
Gotta get that diploma
So I could hurry up and wait
(Chorus 2)
Hurry up and wait
Just hurry up and wait
Gotta get to work
So I can hurry up and wait.
V3
If I only knew
I could procrastinate
I'd take my time
Not hurry up and wait
(Chorus 3)
Hurry up and wait
Just hurry up and wait
It's a fast paced world
So l hurry up and wait.
V4
In the waiting room
I'm beginning to pace
Having our firstborn
Means hurry up and wait.
(Chorus 4)
Hurry up and wait
Just hurry up and wait
In the circle of life
I just hurry up and wait.
V5
I know I'll end up
At heaven's gate
I pray to God I don't
Have to hurry up and wait.
(Chorus)
Hurry up and wait
Just hurry up and wait
We rush though life
Just to hurry up and wait.
