Just thought I'd share a few of the lyrics I've been writing recently.
Like A Tornado
By Jim Pate April 8, 2019 Rev 4/9/19
(Pre Chorus) Like a tornado dropping out of the sky, You dropped into my life! Why?
(Verse 1) I didn't see The black clouds building Or feel the chill in the air. No strong winds blowing To let me know you were there.
(Verse 2) Spinning round, You're power overtook me. I was up in the air Helpless, I went where you took me Storms raged everywhere.
(Chorus) Like a tornado That drops from the sky, You stormed into my life
(Bridge) Hot winds, cooled by your presence I look around and you're gone Didn't see that black cloud lifting Leaving me to carry on Alone...
(Verse 3) You blew in fast And tore my world apart. I heard your scream in the wind Now gone, like the tornado My broken heart on the mend
(Chorus) Like a tornado That drops from the sky, You blew out of my life

Between The Bible and The Bottle By Jim Pate April 6, 2019 Rev 4/7/19
(Verse 1) I recall our wedding day When I spoke my vows to you I said I promise to be faithful Forever, yes it’s true. With the words from the Bible Our lives we did unite But I left you alone and crying From the fight we had tonight.
(chorus) Between the Bible and the bottle There’s a world that tempts me so While the Bible tells me stay The Bottle says just go. With each angry word that's spoken Sacred vows just give way To the liquor from the bottle That leads me astray.
(Verse 2) In this bar tonight I'm tempted To forget you’re waiting there And as I drink more of the whiskey The less I really care As I press that bottle to my lips The conscience starts to fade Between your Bible and my bottle Lies a night you’ll be betrayed.
(chorus) Between the Bible and the bottle There’s a world that tempts me so While the Bible tells me stay The Bottle says just go. With each angry word that's spoken Sacred vows just give way To the liquor from the bottle That leads me astray.
(Verse 3) I could blame it on the whiskey But tomorrow I'll know the truth The love that we once had Was replaced with 90 proof. I'll spend tonight with someone Whose name I won't recall And in the sober light of morning Forget the reason for it all.
(chorus) Between the Bible and the bottle There’s a world that tempts me so While the Bible tells me stay The Bottle says just go. With each angry word that's spoken Sacred vows just give way To the liquor from the bottle That leads me astray.
(Verse 4) When I wake you up tomorrow I’ll gently kiss you laying there And you’ll quickly get up off the couch Run to brush your long blonde hair Angry words will go unsaid But your trust will be long gone In the silence of the morning We'll try to carry on.
(chorus) Between the Bible and the bottle There’s a world that tempts me so While the Bible tells me stay The Bottle says just go. With each angry word that's spoken Sacred vows just give way To the liquor from the bottle That leads me astray.

Fishing By Jim Pate April 6, 2019
Here I am just sitting on the creek bank Bucket of bait by my side Watching my bobber floating on the water Hoping that the fish don't bite.
Came to the creek bank early this morning A little after first light Watching that river looking like a mirror Hoping that the fish don't bite
Nothing in the world will bother me this morning Not a worry or a care. Dang it my bobber just went under water Might be a fish down there.
Here I am just sitting on the creek bank Empty can by my side. Nice mess of panfish hanging on the stringer Glad that the fish did bite.

Creek's Rising By Jim Pate March 18, 2019
Daddy, the creek is on the rise We can't get home on the other side We left Mama there all alone Cows need milking and feeding corn.
(Chorus) Creek is rising deep and wide Can't get over to the other side Can't get over to the other side
Yeah the creek is really deep We can't get home tonight to sleep Have to stay in town tonight Boarding house chicken might taste alright
(Chorus) Creek is rising deep and wide Can't get over to the other side Can't get over to the other side
Creek keeps rising deep and wide Glad our house is high and dry Corn in the bottom washed away Have to plant it over on another day
(Chorus) Creek is rising deep and wide Can't get over to the other side Can't get over to the other side
Creek is finally going down Me and Daddy head out of town Ford the creek head up the lane Home with Mama once again.

Fooling Around By Jim Pate March 13, 2019
Hon, let's take a little ride In my old Ford pickup truck Got the boat and trailer ready to tow Head on out to the lake With you sitting by my side Country music playing on the radio.
(Chorus) Cooler's filled with ice and beer. And a nice soft blanket for the hard cold ground Fishing tackle in the back, Tent and sleeping bags are packed Darlin’, I think we'll have time to fool around.
We'll camp out by the water Maybe build a little fire. But I don't think we will need a lot of wood We'll take life as it comes Sweet kisses lead me higher To the wonder of your sweet love oh so good.
(Chorus) Cooler's filled with ice and beer. And a nice soft blanket for the hard cold ground Fishing tackle in the back, Tent and sleeping bags are packed Darlin’, I think we'll have time to fool around.
In the afterglow of our love Watch the sun sinking low While the love we shared will keep us nice and warm, As we watch the stars above Feel the way our love has grown Keep you all wrapped up in my two loving arms.
(Chorus) Cooler's filled with ice and beer. And a nice soft blanket for the hard cold ground Fishing tackle in the back, Tent and sleeping bags are packed Darlin’, I think we'll have time to fool around.

Mister Undertaker By Jim Pate April 2, 2019
(Chorus)
Mister Undertaker Take your time today Drive slowly as you take me To my dark, cold grave Drive slowly as you take me To my dark, cold grave.
(Verse 1)
Let me see the sunshine Just this one last time Let me smell the flowers Taste the sweet red wine
Let me hear some music On your radio. Maybe a little country Or some Rock and Roll
(Chorus)
Mister Undertaker Take your time today Drive slowly as you take me To my dark, cold grave Drive slowly as you take me To my dark, cold grave.
(Verse 2)
As you pass this next house, Stop so I can see. There's my youngest grandson In that big oak tree
I can only imagine My family there Gathered round the table Heads bowed in prayer.
(Chorus)
Mister Undertaker Take your time today Drive slowly as you take me To my dark, cold grave Drive slowly as you take me To my dark, cold grave.
(Bridge)
My life flew by so very fast I reminisce about the past Thanks Grave Digger for giving me This time for all the memories.
(Verse 3)
But The wheels of life must go around And now I too must go. So onward Undertaker But could you please drive slow.
Outro..

My Cumberland Mountain Home By Jim Pate March 26, 2019
In my Cumberland Mountain Home Never got the urge to roam Work in the mines don't own no car, Walk to Church in Sunday it ain’t too far.
(Chorus) Born on this mountain top And it's here I'll die Where the blue from a thousand smokes Reach to heaven's sky Where the streams are clear and cool Lighting bugs spread their light (or Fireflies) God put me on this hill That's how I know it's right.
Have forty acres and a one-eyed cow Raise a crop of corn with a mule and plow Corn is made into meal and shine Good corn likker that's mighty fine.
Chorus) Born on this mountain top And it's here I'll die Where the blue from a thousand smokes Reach to heaven's sky Where the streams are clear and cool Lighting bugs spread their light (or Fireflies) God put me on this hill That's how I know it's right.
Work the mine from dark to dawn Then farm the land from sunup on. Saturday night me and the wife Head to the barn and dance all night
Chorus) Born on this mountain top And it's here I'll die Where the blue from a thousand smokes Reach to heaven's sky Where the streams are clear and cool And fireflies spread their light God put me on this hill That's how I know it's right.
(Bridge) Big cities have their problems That we don't have up here No traffic congestion The air is fresh and clear
(Verse 4 ) I was born on this mountain On this mountain's where I'll die My body'll go back to dirt and sand So family please don't cry My soul is there in Heaven My ashes are here at home Just pour some moonshine on the grave Of my Cumberland Mountain home.
(Outro) Yeah I'll be looking down on you From Cumberland’s Heavenly home Heaven is my home

You Need A Fiddle By Jim Pate March 27, 2019
When you come down to Texas To play for a dance hall show You gotta have a fiddler Cause there's one thing you must know Guitars are fine for the cowboy waltz And playing rock and roll But you need a Bob Wills fiddle To twirl and do-si-do.
(Chorus) In Texas we love to two-step As we circle round the floor If you ain't got a fiddle Just head on out the door I may enjoy the way you sing But this fact I implore Go get your band s fiddle Or don't come back no more.
If you want to do some honky tonk A piano will belong And steel guitars I love to hear For an old Hank William's song Now we ain't big in Texas For the sound of the old banjo Cause you need a Bob Wills fiddle To twirl and do-si-do
(Chorus) In Texas we love to two-step As we circle round the floor If you ain't got a fiddle Just head on out the door I may enjoy the way you sing But this fact I implore Go get your band s fiddle Or don't come back no more.
(Bridge) Faded Love just don't sound right Unless the fiddler can play all night A few square dances I will do for fun But the Texas two-step is why I come
(Chorus) In Texas we love to two-step As we circle round the floor If you ain't got a fiddle Just head on out the door I may enjoy the way you sing But this fact I implore Go get your band a fiddle Or don't come back no more.
Go get your band a fiddler And give Bob Wills his due Something old from Ernest Tubb or even something new.
One in the style of Texas swing Performed by Chris Ledoux. As long as you have the fiddle Most any song will do.
Yeah, get your band a fiddle Who plays the great old two-step tunes Texas Troubadour Ernest Tubb Walking the floor over you Or one in the style of Texas swing Performed by Chris Ledoux. As long as you have the fiddle Most any song will do.
As long as you can fiddle I'll two-step all night to you

I couldn't imagine Where I would be Without your love To care for me

Cold Hard Facts Of Life By Jim Pate March 16, 2018
Revised 3/17/2019
Sitting on this barstool one more time Been drunk and stoned so many times, you’d think I’d lose my mind Since the night you left me (Since you walked out the door) This barroom’s where you’ll find This old lonely heart you left behind. (This broken, lonely heart you left behind.)
(Chorus) I can’t forget that night When you told me we were through Your voice (leaving) cut me deeper than a knife. I begged you please please stay But you turned and walked away I guess that’s (just) the cold hard facts of life.
I passed you on the street the other day I know you didn’t see me when I turned and looked away (I guess you didn't see me cause you walked the other way) Still feel those same old memories I’ve tried to keep at bay But I know it’s the price I have to pay. (But the heartache that I feel is.here to stay)
(Chorus) I can’t forget that night When you told me we were through Your voice (leaving) cut me deeper than a knife. I begged you please please stay But you turned and walked away I guess that’s (just) the cold hard facts of life.
So bartender, please set up another round For my family in this bar, who every night are found Forgetting all their memories Of love that’s gone away And in the glasses feel the sorrow drowned.
Bridge The cold hard facts of life I have to face is that you're gone Though it's hard I've gotta do it on my own
I see her smile at me across the floor And I know that she'll go home with me when I walk out the door Between the woman and the whiskey Sweet relief will give me sleep Just like so many many nights before.
(Chorus) I can’t forget that night When you told me we were through Your voice (leaving) cut me deeper than a knife. I begged you please please stay But you turned and walked away I guess that’s (just) the cold hard facts of life.
Outro Loving you is just a cold hard fact of life Losing you is just a cold hard fact of life It's just the cold hard facts of life. It's just the cold hard facts of life Cold hard facts of life. .

The T-Bird Trade Jim Pate (October 27, 2018)
Drove to the dealership in my SUV Ready to trade for a new one, see Looking around, we couldn't agree Until I saw that antique car that he… Was driving.
It was a little red T-bird, a fifty five White top convertible, hard one inside Black leather seats and overdrive . Four on the floor made me feel alive. I wanted it
I ask the salesman could I take it for a spin Just around the block as I gave him a grin I'll be back in just a minute or two and then I’ll make up my mind about giving in And trading
The salesman thought about the commission he’d get If I traded for the new SUV so he let Me take his T-bird out but told me not to forget About the great deal I was about to get On the SUV
So I gave him a folded up little note Just getting permission something I wrote To take the little TBird out on the road Should I get stopped or trouble you know Just sign it
As I left the salesman and my old SUV Headed straight down to the DMV With the Bill of Sale he had signed for me Trading his car for my old SUV I grinned.
The morale to my story is plain to see What's bad for you can be good for me So you'd better beware and really read Cause it's seller beware if you let it be I'm happy
