As at the time I did mention when my wife died( Dec.11, 2018) Over our 32 year relationship( and 30 years of marriage) I've made up many a poem or song dedicated to her, and usually in lieu of a store bought card on special occasions( birthday, valentine's, anniversary, etc.)
But this time it was more serious and important for me to write a song where at least if no music could seem to fit, at least the
lyrics are poetic enough to stand on their own and express how I feel and what this wonderful woman has meant to me all those years and still does And "La-La" was a name given her by a grandniece she was very fond of who couldn't, when about two years old, wrap her mouth around my wife's name of Alicia... And it stuck.
(32 years in the making! )
REQUIEM FOR LA-LAKen Maluchnik
Obsidian eyes that sparkle
From an inner light that beams;
And illuminates a harvest moon bright smile;
Did warm my soul, protecting me;
From life's icy indifference;
And convinced me to stay here a while.
Love that wrapped snug 'round me;
Like a warm and cozy quilt;
And soft arms that locked;
Vice tight 'round my being;
Hard for me to believe that;
It was happening to me;
And also to believe what I was seeing.
(Chorus)
And even though your soft breathing;
Can no longer be heard;
And too, of your presence I'm Bereft;
I still sense you're surrounding me;
Just like coating my skin;
Making it seem as if
You've never left.
(end chorus)
Swirling inside a vortex;
That was headed for the drain;
When you reached in and gave me such a pull;
I was soon standing where everything was;
Oh, so warm and toasty;
And you proved to me that;
My glass was half full.
Floating upon a blissful sea;
With ne'er a ripple or a wave;
I could have rode that raft;
Till end of days;
But that's no longer possible;
And I thank you for the memories;
Proving no one can replace;
Your special ways.
As someone that you once said;
You thought looks "good in the dark";
I'll miss the unique way you once;
Expressed yourself;
And though I will miss touching you;
I won't miss you being with me;
Since you're clearly in my sight;
Up on my shelf!
(Chorus) end..
