Gip's Place in Bessemer Alabama has had problems in the past with the local authorities. It remains one of the last true Juke Joints in the country. Began as a garage with the local blues musicians playing as they did in the days of Jim Crow, it was still open at last report.
Does anyone have an update?

It looks like they are still open and doing well there. Gips - TripadvisorI've never been and didn't know about it. Gip's WebsiteBessemer Al was once known as the "Pittsburgh of the South" as it was mainly a steel manufacturing town. The industry used steel furnaces known as Bessemer Converters.
