Came across this while doing some research on character actor Timothy Carey....
Now wondering If I should have instead placed this in the "instruments" page Whitefang

Wow Frank looked like a whole different person no long hair and no beard. I remember (barely) seeing that when it aired.

Funny thing is, I used to watch the Steve Allen show back then too. But don't remember this. Y'know, I also wonder..... Zappa never(to my knowledge) had a beard, but grew that hair just under the lower lip to an extreme. He said he did the soundtrack for the Timothy Carey movie "The World's Greatest Sinner", and looking at this clip from it, made me wonder if THIS is where Frank got that idea? Whitefang

Yeah, in '63 he was Johnny Carson's biggest and only competitor. Both shows on at the same time. Allen had the courage to have comedian LENNY BRUCE on his show once, and sometimes an up and coming LOU RAWLS would appear. And who could forget that teabag sketch? Allen, covered with a few dozen teabags having a crane dunk him in a huge tank of warm water! That guy was off the wall for sure! Whitefang
