So when we were in the guitar shop last week in Kerrville, 25 miles south of here, the guy told us about a jam a few miles further down the road. This evening we put my harps in the car and headed over there. I don't think we'd even got seated yet when a guy came over and asked what was in my case. I could have been a smartass but I told him, harps. He nearly dragged me over to meet the guy running the jam! And the guy who did the dragging was the owner of the place, definitely not a dive by any means. www.facebook.com/GravityCheckSaloonIn short we got just spoiled by these folks there. Very good bunch. They had me up for a couple or 3 songs on harp in the first set and then had Jolene join me on a borrowed guitar. We did 3 songs as the duo. Jay, the head guy, came on stage to do backing vocals on our last song even! First out of the gate with the band was Stormy Monday, which I had not played in decades. It was killer. I don't recall the other songs with the band but it was all good. I got great compliments and when Jo and I exited the stage she did as well. All in all a fine time. It has been YEARS since we hit a jam. I was right at home. We'll be going back with Jo's guitar and a songbook in a week or two.

This may be the start of a kind of reintegration into a scene. I think this area may be home base for winters, summers not so sure yet. We're hoping Jo will be in shape to relocate for next summer, somewhere north and a bit cooler. Maine or New Hampshire or Vermont maybe. I truly began my harp journey around Denton Tx. in the 90's. These guys last night had that same welcoming attitude along with great laid back competence and a feel for the groove and the idea of improvisation. I was home.
