Went up last Thursday got home last night, did the trip in less than 14 hours each way.
Made if from Loch Lomond near Clear Lake Ca to Near Phoenix Az in 13 hours and 45 minutes, best time ever. We started out at 1:30 AM yesterday morning and finished up 3:20 PM here in the lovely Sonoran Desert. Had my little Honda Fit up to 90 MPH at times on I-10 near Palm Springs, 80 mph plus some of the time on I-5 and the 99 freeway and always over 70 mph most of the time.

Okay HOT ROD! I guess those desert stretches need to go by faster. Hope you had a nice trip all around.

For me the HIGH road was much different up to 34 years ago. It was in its way ethereal but also it led to some deep dark places. Miracles do happen and I am proof! These days my high road is music and caring for the one I love. Jo and I did cross the Divide a couple of times and also came down Colombia Gorge on the Oregon/Washington border, and on south over Grant's Pass to Cal. Air was pretty thin here and there!

Just joking Fangster, I took the freeways sober and paying close attention to the roadways and traffic for safety sake.

jawbone I have been all over the west coast many times and lived in Northern California for several years around the Weaverville area which is west of Redding on Highway 299. That was back in the late 60's and early 70's. I am very familiar with the west coast, although I never went north of Redding many times after my first trips out there. One time I hitchhiked up to San Fransisco and back down to San Diego just to see how it went. I was glad to be back in San Diego area after that trip. I had this little mini tent just a tad bigger than my sleeping bag, and I would sleep in the on ramps of the freeways under the trees. That cured me of the hitchhiking travel method.

DB, I am also a vet of hitch hiking with a mountain tent, and spent time up and down Highway 1 from LA all the way to Spokane. Interchanges, pastures, cemeteries, all were home for short times. It was definitely an experience. Youth was necessary. I could no more sleep on the ground these days than bench press 400 pounds. With Jo's breathing issues those trips over 5000 feet put her in a semiconcious state. It was always good to get back down to thinner air.

Just riffing on what's meant in a way as to what taking the "high road" means sometimes. Like--- Definition of the high road 1chiefly US : a morally proper way of doing something Several local news programs reported the rumor, but the city newspaper took the high road and waited to see if anyone could confirm the story.
