Not a founding member of the group, Gordon originally signed on as The Jordanaires’ piano player, only to be moved up to first tenor singer before the group gained noteriety performing with Elvis Presley. Besides the group’s iconic performance on “Hound Dog,” Gordon and his fellow Jordanaires also provided backing vocals on Patsy Cline’s “Crazy,” Jim Reeves’ “Four Walls” and George Jones’ “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” among many others. The legendary group was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001. In 2002, they received a Grammy award for their participation on They Called Him Mr. Gospel Music: The James Blackwood Tribute Album.
