I have a Squier strat, bought used for Fathers Day last year. Its a 12 year old SE with 3 single coils and 3 pots. Its my first electric so Im not sure if Im hearing correctly but it seems turning the tone pots has no effect on the tone, The volume knob works fine as well as the 5 position pup selector but I cant notice any difference with the tone pots. I play it into a Fender Frontman 15G amp and headphones. Hiw strong a difference should I notice? I restrung it recently with Earnie Ball Slinky 9s too. Cheers Larry

First thing is to bear in mind that Strats generally have no tone control on the bridge pickup- so check the middle and neck pickuyps to see if the tone control is working. If you turn the knob to 10 and then roll back, you should hear the treble lessen. I've been playing Strats for years and I rarely use the tone controls- mine are set to 10 pretty much permanently.

Cheers Steve . I nearly always use the neck pickup for that nasally blues tone but turning the tone knob has no effect.I heard elsewhere that some people disconnect them so they don't interfere with the tone or summat like that. Maybe the previous owner did that! Also I could use a whammy bar but the guy in the shop told me it was a hard tail, but it isn't!

I think you are right that the pickups are not connected to tone control. I disconnected the neck and middle from tone controls on mine then added the bridge to one of the tone controls.
