How do you feel about tuning strings above their standard pitch? I was always told it would stress the neck too much. True or False?
Open E tuning is a nice open tuning since it can be used for a lot of old Appalachian tunes but I've always tuned to open D and capo'd up.

I've never tried it Jim. I think I have the same thought that you have-i.e that it would mean that there would be too much string tension.

Tuning below standard pitch can make the bends easier and bigger.

Tuning below standard pitch can make the bends easier and bigger. I agree John. BUT open E makes slide a whole lot easier to me.
