Toothpaste is more popular than rock. I feel encouraged that there is still a lively rock underground, but underground ain't popular, or it wouldn't be called underground. Look at the top forty, and the hottest touring music, and it's mostly hip hop or country. But then, country ain't country anymore. In a way, what's most popular doesn't make a lot of sense, because it's only the music you can hear that determines popularity. If stations aren't playing certain kinds of music, and major labels aren't promoting it, and the singers aren't photogenic, it ain't going to sell enough units to make it profitable.
Hey, I've lived a lifetime being obscure. I kinda like it. :-)
