Think of me as someone who just heard about electricity, and you'll be pretty close to my knowledge of pedals. I just bought a Fender Excelsior (or is it a Fender Electrolux... let me go check,) and a few folks have suggested I should get a pedal to get the termolo sound I love of Pops Staples. As often happens, frfiends suggest equipment they have which hasn't been made in twenty years. Their recommendation is for a tube termolo pedal. The only two I find cost almost as much as the amplifier. My question. Do I have to get a tube pedal. If so, any suggestions for a pedal THAT IS STILL BEING SOLD? Thanks for all your help. I'm a songwriter. That doesn't even take electricity.

Ah now you are likely to get a ton of suggestions. Yes in an ideal world a tube( I know them as valves but that is a British thing) pedal would give you the warm tone but you know, I wouldn't get too hung up on that Jerry. I've tried a few and most of the present day ones are pretty good but there is one that I really liked that, to me, gave me the warmth that I liked. It is made by T-Rex and is called the Tremster. Someone described it to me as "buttery"- now I kind of laughed at the description ( I mean, "buttery" what on earth?) but I got the drift when I tried it.It has that lazy balmy summer day sound. I also picked one up for a song on Ebay but that is another matter. Having said that, I tried a few and they were all pretty good but there are some very expensive ones out there and you can go mad on these things.

Thanks for the suggestions, Steve. I'll file them away. You never know what is going to turn up on places like Hellomusic.com. After getting suggestions on vocal mics, I was able to pick up a Shure SM58 -LCDynamic, list price $188 for $84 from Hellomusic, They have very limited quantities when they post their stuff, and the sales are only for one day, so it's good to have a wish list sitting next to the computer.

Doesn't the Tremolo in the Excelsior amp work well?

Oops my apology Razzgospel - I didn't see your other post on the Excelsior tremolo not quite being there for the sound you are trying to get.
