If you're planning some small venue gigs and you find the club doesn't have a PA system, what do you use?
I ran into a group that has a Bose L1 system with a T1 Tonematch mixer. Pretty awesome.

I use a Carvin 16 channel mixer with it's own power amp. Plenty of power with 2 monitor sends. If I need 4 monitors I just add another power amp for the Font of House Speakers or 2 powered monitos. Perfect for us. Most of the time when we do play out, the places don't have there own Pa. I do like the Bose, but talking guys into that on a part time basics is hard.

My band has a small Mackie powered 12 channel mixer with a couple of powered speakers that we mount on stands. We also have a couple of floor mounted monitors- one of these is powered and we run a cable to the second passive one. That seems to cope with most of the venues we play- we are not a loud band. I am the lucky one who gets to be the sound engineer and problem solver. We are currently looking at replacing the floor monitors with mic stand mounted small individual monitors where the mic is plugged into it( and you get a monitored signal of your own mic) which then sends an unaffected signal to the main PA which then sends a signal via one of the aux sends. I am a bit concerned about any phasing that might arise from the mic signal entering the monitor from two directions but I'll read up on it before we go ahead.
We use the PA only for vocals and acoustic guitars that we use on a couple of songs.

Well we went ahead with the purchase of four mic stand mounted powered monitors and 2 gigs in, I am amazed at how great they are. We run cables from the two aux sends and therefore have two different mixes as the bass player likes to have a different mix. The rest of us share the same mix and we daisy chain them. For my part, I can honestly say that I have never before been able to hear the vocals so well and our harmonies are far better. Our drummer is highly delighted as he has one that he can hear too. We put the acoustic guitars into them also and it is a revelation. The floor mounted units were ok but never very efficient.
