You remember the big flap made over whether or not Jimmy Page "stole" the idea for "Stairway To Heaven" from Spirit's Randy California and his instrumental tune "Taurus"? All because there were some similarities to the guitar parts.
I heard another similarity example last night. It involved an old MUDDY WATERS tune "Still A Fool" and the years later Jimi hendrix tune "Voodoo Child(Slight return)". Muddy's tune features a blues riff that I've heard in many other blues tunes, and figured it was what Hendrix reworked for his tune. Listen and see if you can tell what I mean-----
Any of you ever hear any others? Whitefang

Scorp, musically they are very close- Bobby's and the TBirds' works.
Is there anything really new under the sun?

Wasn't really looking for that much similarity, especially since entire charts of blues tunes are so similar. Like Michael J. Fox's MARTY said when taking over the band at the school dance in "Back To The Future" he describes "Johnny B. Goode" to the other band members as... "Your basic blues riff in B". That slight guitar flourish Muddy plays in "Still A Fool", which I've heard in a few other old blues tunes was "souped up" a bit by Hendrix in "Voodoo Child(Slight Return)". The rest of each tune hasn't much similarity at all.... But if you want BLATANT... there's these two--- Listen to what's about 27 seconds in, then.... How this one starts out--- Whitefang

But too, there are melodies from different pieces that are astonishingly similar. We all know the story behind The Chiffon's "He's So Fine" and George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord". And there are these two unmistakenly similar melodies.....

Thanks for that TIN. But I did mention this in the OP. But then-------------- Oh, and harking back to the "Stairway" and "Taurus" similarities, listen to the chord progression in THIS tune! Whitefang
