You'd have to really hold on to the kite today...wind gusts over 60mph.

That's why we're home getting the kites ready for calmer winds!

I had the opportunity to see The Dead twice in concert. Once in Albany, NY and the other on the 4'th of July at Foxboro Stadium performing with Bob Dylan. The Dylan and The Dead tour. Two things I remember most of that show. First, Bill Walton who was a professional basketball player of note at the time playing with the Boston Celtics then, was a huge Grateful Dead fan. He was seen at the show. He was easy to spot since you see Bill was at least 7 feet tall! Another was during the performance during the Dylan set when Jerry Garcia sprung the audience to life with an opening solo to All Along The Watchtower. The audience up to that time was taking a time out as I remember. I was sitting down on the infield tarp and the audience was taking a breather. When Jerry began his solo on that song, you should have seen that place come to life. The whole stadium was rocking and it was electric! I will never forget that moment. For those interested, if you don't already own Sirius XM, you can still listen to a channel on the net devoted to the music of the Grateful Dead. Grateful Dead Radio

Rats...I lost my post with Spell Check!
Okay, once again: TN Jim - A resounding YEEESSSSS [barmy] from north of your border in the bluegrass mountain coalfields of KY; eagerly awaiting the pending announcement on DaP 10 (12/12/69?)...
Geezer - I adore your kites, in fact the second contains a pic of my only tattoo (but orange with green bib).../kate

I had to look that one up Dan, but right off the bat I'd say naming anyplace in KY by the moniker "paradise" is futilely optimistic...incidentally, no - I'm far east in dark heart of Appalachia...mountain mafia and Deliverance country; in fact, local politics is basically a serial Faulkner novel....though I'm far from my original home in Beantown!

So what are we listening to Deadwise? Anyone else subscribed to Dave's Picks or purchased any old releases lately?

Well, it's official: link (hope that's functional, I'm at work sans utube access)... 12/12/69 as Dave's Picks 10 - hard to argue with the fat, fuzzy, pyschedelic sounds of a strong 69 show./k

I went to two of their shows one in '68(?) at the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh then one at the Paramount theater '72(?) in Portland OR. Still listen here and there on Sirius or Pandora. American Beauty, Workingman's Dead and In The Dark are probably my favorites. I bought Anthem Of The Sun in '68 and was into it for quite a while then. A few years ago attended a party and there were quite a few members of the local (Nashville) Dead Heads society there. It was a lot of fun chatting with those folks.

Hey E, could it have been the Paramount Theatre in Seattle? If so that's a an absolutely golden show from July 72 (the 21st to be exact) that has been released on iTunes as part of an exclusive download series (#10)!!
Your show pedigree, while perhaps limited by the standards of die hard tour vets, has elicited a Pavlovian response from me [happy] (no salivating smilies)...especially since they're 13-18 years BMT (before my time)! Thanks for the post!

No it was at the one in Portland. I actually met and chatted briefly with Phil Lesh at the park blocks behind the theater that afternoon. The Paramount was quite a large and a very beautiful venue with 3 levels. I liked sitting in the 2nd level balcony for concerts. Think the Portland Paramount has been restored or hope so.
Back to the GD concert, into their 2nd set the *smoke* in the theater was so thick like a heavy fog. We couldn't see the stage or main floor any longer. Went down to main level and bit better but still very thick. It was starting to get my allergies just like hay fever so exited before show ended but was there for ~ 2 or 2-1/2 hours anyway. It was humoring in retrospect. No doubt they played Seattle on the same tour and probably Eugene, OR prior to Portland.

I was curious as to whether some of you guys own the "Dick's Picks" series of live recordings and what are some of your favorite recordings? I wouldn't mind purchasing a few although prices at least through Amazon are not cheap.
