Finished this last week. Szwed is an excellent and thorough writer. I paid no attention to Sun Ra until recently, but have become a fan. The only book I've read by Szwed is his biography of Miles Davis, which was solid stuff.

...Szwed is an excellent and thorough writer... The only book I've read by Szwed is his biography of Miles Davis, which was solid stuff. I should have read that. I read the autobiography ghosted by Quincy Troupe, and then the bio by Jack Chambers (which Troupe seems to have plagiarized). But I've had enough of Miles bios by now. I will say that Davis/Troupe was illuminating because of the many profoundly a**holic Miles quotes - in the Art Pepper Straight Life and Complete Village Vanguard Sessions sense...

That's interesting, as they might be different editions of the same book.

Read this a few weeks ago and couldn't put it down. Enjoyable accounts of the commercial music business and Silicon Valley. Many funny vignettes involving famous musicians (e.g. Grateful Dead, Michael Jackson, Eddie Van Halen).

I'm reading Clive Cussler's "Spartan Gold" You know George. I was reading at least 1 Clive Cussler novel in an evening but I tried "The Assassin". Still haven't finished it after a year.

Just started. A bit of fluff as a palate cleanser after Homo Deus.

Jim, Last year I read one and liked the characters and story so decided to try another. Clive seems to have a bunch of books out over the years. This series with Remi and Sam Fargo has been very good. There is very little dead space in the stories. Grant Blackwood is a co-writer it appears.

I've been a fan of his Dirk Pitt novels.
