David Lodge, Writer's LuckAlthough I have read nearly all of Lodge's novels, I'm not sure if 300+ pages on a 15-year period in his life are worth the effort.

I might be interested...let me know what you think An essential read if you are interested in the Vietnam war. I already knew the basics, remember the tv coverage at the time, and had recently seen the Ken Burns doc, which devotes an entire episode to Hue, but the book really fleshes the story out and paints an intense portrait of the campaign. It starts with the preparation for Tet, it's wider aims and the nationwide attacks, but quickly focuses in on the fighting in Hue and the disconnect between the truly violent and harrowing situation on the ground and the rosy way it was initially presented in the US. Verdict - worth reading.

From Lauren Lee to Laurie Lee. Continuing my reading of English and American literature (Orwell, Hemingway, Lee) relating to the Spanish Civil War.

Fragmented and hard to follow series of short stories with characters in common. The long middle section was interesting, the section of power point diagrams baffling, and the final parts meandering. I prefered Manhattan Beach.

Had to call a halt on this during the final 100 pages. The meandering detail and oppressively dark content were too much for me. I'll resume at some later date.

My Mother was a avid fan of Ellery Queen. I just picked this one up in memory of her.

I was getting ready to read Directorate S then realized it was a sequel to Ghost Wars. I thought I'd better refresh my memory by reading Ghost Wars again.

Barnes's latest. Slight, but readable. Expect the movie will be along in due course.
