How do you feel about message boards like this one compared to Social Media like Facebook?
I personally prefer message boards for groups of people with like interest. True, Facebook offers "Groups" and they do function quite well, providing instant notifications, etc. However, it's extremely difficult to pull together topics of similar subject material. And it's really easy for "trolls" to enter in as well as people who would plagarize content.
Anyway, given all that is available, I still like the intimacy provided by a well administrated message board/forum
Please, let's vote at least.

I know I am going to get shit for this, but I went with Facebook. I have invested way too much on Facebook for 10 years. I have also witnessed the decline in traffic to forums similar too this one. With the exception of the Vintage Synth Explorer Forum, the Music Player Forum and the Talking Machine Forum. Although, I'm not saying the forums are dead. I see it more, where on forums, certain boards will receive the most traffic. The Music player forum's Keyboard Corner has the most traffic, with the most posts. The VSE has the highest with the General Synth Section getting the most traffic and the TMF General Machines board has the most. On this board, I tend to see the What are you Listening to in Jazz? Board with the most traffic. Even the Synth Zone's Arranger Board, gets the most traffic.
It would seem too me, in my opinion. That only, one board will receive the most traffic and not the entire forum. 10 years ago before the rise of FACEBOOK. BBS forums like this and My Space where the few places people could come together too share ideas, and interests. Along with Facebook, came Instagram, Twitter, Snap Chat, Pintrest, Linked In. So there are more areas for people too come together. Forums such as this one, are going too have to chang, with they want to attract new people, if they want too survive?
I have two Pages on Facebook that I manage. Nipper's Lounge for my interest in antique phonographs and music form the 1890's -1930. Also, I have Parsonage Antiques. A page for my families antique business. Plus, I am a member of two Groups on 78 records, that I am an administrator on. So, I can't just leave Facebook. There are groups on synthesizers and electronic music, but there are not like the groups I manage. I could do one myself, but there is too much competition. Also, I have a YouTube Channel and I share videos, to Facebook.
Being part of a forum like this is not as exciting as it was 10 years ago. Too much has changed. Especially, when the focus is only on one topic. If you can't get more people interest in the topics, then why bother having a forum, in the first place?
Again this is only my opinion. I'm sure a lot of you will disagree with me on my Choice of going with Facebook, but that's the reality of Social Media.

I prefer forums like this, but suspect/fear that I'm a dinosaur and Facebook is the future. I don't use social media. I registered with Facebook under a fake name just because a couple of people I know post there and I couldn't freely view w/o registering.

Facebook Groups get Out Of Hand quickly. I'm in some neighborhood groups, and there are some characters who like to troll them. They are real people and usually in or near the neighborhoods.
The other thing is, while Groups sort of work like forums, they really don't. FB hides older posts, which causes a lot of people to post the same response because they didn't see the older one(s) that say the same thing, and generally, when you want to see what's going on, there's a lot of crap to scroll through, unlike forums where you get a nice list of subjects and most forum software shows you what you've read and not at a quick glance. FB groups put a line next to the replies you haven't seen, but you still have to scroll a lot.

Both have there good and bad points. Facebook is to intrusive and imo not enough security to wanna p any info on there....with s of the freedom at Facenpboo protons more arguing, flaming l Forums are filled with self proclaimed know it alls, posers n long winded answers that make no sense like Paul...who invests??? 10 years of Facebook? Dude get a WOMAN!

It's interesting. The people who really actively participate in a forum seem to have voted for the Forum, the 100 others who came to the poll just disregarded it.

I voted for the forum, even though I'm a ghost. It's more of a wishful thinking vote than a practical one. I've pretty much abandoned both. Back when I was reading FB, I was being fed a variety of 'news' and it was easy to reply or post an opinion and move on to a new topic in short order. Lots of pictures, too. In my experience since the 90s, forums are often co-opted and dominated by a couple of guys. It's like being on the road and walking into a bar for a beer. More often than not, if you don't look, talk and act in a way that they approve of, you're treated like an intruder in their little domain. I think that's the main reason forums languish. FB has so many people involved that the groups seldom become the proprietary turf of a few "kings of the hill." The alpha males still try to dominate but just can't because there are too many voices involved. Although the discussions very often become chaotic and crude, they seldom become the cave of a single tribe. Of course, I'm generalizing badly here. People will be people no matter where you find them. On another tangent, none of them -- FB, Twitter, or dedicated forums -- are fond of digressions. There is a class of people who consider themselves regulators, enforcers of normativity, and they actively search for opportunities to pounce on others for digressing, going off topic, for daring to have an opinion which is not orthodox or accepted or politically correct or canonical, or for being in any way other than they want you to be, etc. Again, it's just an aspect of people being people. Here I go again, digressing. Coming back, I voted for the forum because, in a perfect world, it would be an assemblage of disinterested experts, artists, craftsmen, and enthusiasts who participate from a passion for the subject field for their mutual betterment and for the mentoring of newcomers to the field. As with most things, the ideal typically falls far short of realization.
