Walleye, yellow perch, and smallmouth bass. I think there are trout around too.

Pike too I guess! Great Lakes, great fish. I had a few run ins with them in the 60's/70's. Most notable was, when I went ice fishing the one time ever, we had several tipups out and caught 2 fish, a yellow perch and a pike about 18 inches long. We tossed them on the ice and kept fishing and they froze solid over he afternoon. I got to take them home and I put them in the bath tub to thaw so I could clean them. The pike came back to life! Mom was a bit pissed off. Good eating once I did the deed.

Haven't been fishing in years. Nowhere nearby me to fish except the Detroit River, and nothing in there to catch except carp. I'd go there as a kid( young teen) and fish for the hell of it, and since it was carp, a lot of catch and release. Before that, I'd fish with my grandfather at his place on Maceday Lake in what's now known as Waterford, MI. And with just a bamboo pole and bobber. Not much in that lake except for bluegill(good eatin') and the occasional perch. And the biggest I've seen was something my Grandfather called a "bullhead" which for some reason he hated with a passion. One he caught he wound up beating it against the side of his boat until it was dead. Then he tossed it back in. I once caught a calico bass that made me so proud(I was 7 at the time) I kept it frozen in our freezer until it was so freezer burned I had no choice but to put it out in the garbage. Whitefang

An amusing aside: While driving to the bank the other day, I pulled up behind a car at a stoplight that had one of those yellow signs in the window that(if you recall) used to read, "Baby on board" or "Mom to be on board" or some such. But, THIS sign read----- "Baby all up in this bitch!" I wasn't sure if it meant the CAR, or the woman riding in it! Whitefang

These guys around here would probably buy a "Walleye Fisherman Up In Here sign like that.

Speaking of bullhead they are a catfish. Smaller than what I saw in the south but when I was a kid I caught a dozen at a time here and there, never very big, but with numbers like that they were worth cleaning and cooking. Some people have a bias based on how a fish looks. Freshwater drum are not a pretty fish especially when you're bringing one in and think you have a crappie or white bass. It's another case though of having an open mind. I learned from an old guy how to cook drum and make them really good to eat.
I'm mostly catch and release in recent years. I will make exceptions for certain fish though.

So I'm looking for another gig somewhere away from these swarms of bugs. We had to decide against any patio gigs here since the bugs would get on everything and possibly be inhaled too. Not to mention the work load here turned out to be more than I can manage. Last weekend I got what needed doing done but it nearly killed me.
I'm disappointed on those fronts for real, I was looking forward to a paycheck and some good gigs and some good fishing outings as well.
So I'm not sure how long we'll be here, kind of depends on if/when I find an opportunity to head for, or a state park we can hunker down at for a time.
The owner was bummed, I could tell. But like Kenny Rogers said, you got to know when....

Break a leg, friend. Weather here in southeast Mi is just getting warm enough for bugs to start being a problem. This time of year we're usually past all the Mayfly problem, but so far this year I haven't noticed any. But we've got other troubles here.... A dam failure on the Tittabawassee river caused Wixom Lake to drain out into the city of Midland, MI and another dam failure on the same river, but further North in Sanford, MI caused major flooding of that town too. And down the road from there, in Gladwin, MI they had dam and flood situations. I have family in Gladwin, and they assure me it's not as bad there as in the other places. Whitefang

I caught that on the news man. I was in a flood in '72 and it's not any good news at all. There was still evidence of that flood for several years afterward. My heart goes out to those who have lost loved pones or been displaced.
Word is the mayflies are not far off. The midges were enough to seal the deal for us.
We'll be right on the Mississippi where I'm going to work and we'll be hooked up. Not far across the river is Natchez which sounds like a jumpin' area. Zachary La. is 90 minutes south, home of Teddy's Juke Joint and a great friend there. Clarksdale Ms. is 3 hours north but there is a lot of blues history in southern Mississippi as well. And I'm thinking there will be some catfish and bream not far away from us too.

So we made Cave City Ky yesterday and Batesville Ms. today. One more leg tomorrow and we should be in place. Again!
