Well I thought things were pretty stable work wise. The other day I was told I was not a good fit for what they wanted here. Basically in a very nice way shown the door. We have time to regroup before we head up the road and that was nice. But something I find very annoying is, my super here did not address the issue with me that ended up getting me put out. She went instead to one of the owners. I'm a person who asks how I'm doing, what I can do better, what have I forgotten to do?
The situation was complicated by another incident not related to my work but to where we were in the park. The cat lady from hell decided to move next to us and that meant all the stray cats around here were then going to be hanging out making messes. This woman is trying to catch all these cats by feeding them and then trapping. The plan is to get them caged and taken to a vet and the pound. Unacceptable. This really felt like an affront. The lady also works here and has for a few years. I guess she has some influence. So we were trying to address this situation when I was cut loose, with apologies. The owner had intended to get with me a week earlier and "got too busy", so let it slide a week.
I don't know about you but the whole thing really put me off. I did not beg for another chance or try to fight my way through. I told them if they weren't happy with my work then no hard feelings, I'd make other arrangements. They did give us a site away from the cat lady and we can stay another 3 weeks.
But good things happen sometimes as a result of bad things. Like this: I immediately, during a sleepless night over this farce, send out some feelers to other parks nearby that may need some help for a couple of months until we will be heading north for the summer. One declined. Then next called me yesterday and wanted me asap! So we went about an hour west and looked the place over and I accepted a gig with them, working a few hours a week in trade for a site. This keeps us close enough to play our upcoming dates at joints around the area.
So that's not all even. I get an email last night from yet another park, a chain that has parks all over. I have a phone interview with them today or tomorrow. It would possibly be a good thing to get with a national chain so I could work with them in different areas where we want to be in the future.
We'll be someplace else by Sunday I think. Maybe we can settle back in for a couple of months and get back to rehearsing.
If life gives you lemons, sometimes you just have to throw them lemons back in life's face!
