I was all ready to head that way, but it was not to be. I've been a fan of the Jawbone and Jolene duo for some time and would really have enjoyed a live performance. I'll make it to one of their gigs yet!!!!!

The gig went great just like last time! Paid well, a few tips, and sent home with a cake tin full of assorted BBQ like chopped beef, brisket, ribs, hot links, etc, plus some sides and sauce. I was burping smoke for 2 days!
We stopped by yesterday and locked August 4, 11 to 1 again.
We talked with the VFW yesterday as well and hope to get something going with them. Other venues are keeping us on hold.
I may have a guy willing to promote us for a percentage. We'll see how that works.

I'm going to spread out the load up process today since it will be high 90's later. I'll use the little folding dolly to take a couple of loads down and secure the totes with amps and p.a. in the back of the truck, under the locking bed cover, and take some miscellaneous stuff as well. Harps, guitars, songbooks will go when we're ready to drive to the venue but the bigger stuff will be in place and ready to go.
I never like taking a stage when I'm still hot and sweaty from load in and set up! My stage shirt and hat ride along and I do a quick change after sound check. I also like enough time to get set up without rushing.

Sounds like you do a great job as a "roadie", "tech" and performer Patrick. Great to be organized isn't it.

So we loaded up the gear today and headed to Post #1 of the American Legion here in Tulsa, to play a couple of sets for their steak night. They have a nice dedicated stage complete with power, floor fans, and a/c in the big main room, which is where we set up. The guy who originally pointed us to this place was there and working in the kitchen. We gave Beau a cd for his trouble. We kicked off at 5:30 to some 25 people or so, and after the first set there were more like 75 people there. Everybody was tucking in to some nice steaks, and the kitchen set aside some prime rib for Jo and me to bring home. The first set we were kind of feeling our way and people were more into their plates, but we know to carry on and do what we do anyway. A couple of folks dropped a tip in the bucket at any rate so we knew we were on the right track. After a break we took the stage again and we- and the crowd- seemed a bit looser. We kind of cut loose, everything from John Henry to some Memphis Minnie, Jimmy Reed to Little Walter along with several original songs in there as well. So second set was where we really got down and got some nice response from the audience. Jo's playing on guitar was flawless and I replied on harp well, and vocals were spot on. On second break a guy came by and bought one each of all 3 cd's! And tipped us to boot. The staff was all very nice to us and gave Jo a libation for free, and made sure we were taken care of in every way. We did a short 3rd set and were well received once again. Some RJ, Big Joe Turner, and several other old masters plus some of our own songs. We finished off with Buddy Holly's Not Fade Away and that was a wrap. Lots of folks applauded after songs and the tip jar felt the love as well! It was over seemingly too soon. We had a really nice time and I think we'll be invited back soon. We got home and got all the gear back in, then it was time for some supper. Prime Rib! The gear can wait to get stowed. We gave it all we had and we're feeling that "good tired" now.

First Friday in July we'll be back at the Legion. All acoustic and not sure it it'll be the bar or the dining room, but whichever is ok with us.
