One gig- the "probably"- looks like a "later on". Day gal booked us but main manager is not yet set up so he'll maybe get with us later. We'll be out this week looking!

Just curious Pat. What genre of music are the owners/managers looking for these days?

It's something of a question, not easy to answer. On video which we play for prospects we do mostly blues, Jimmy Reed on steroids, St. James Infirmary, New Stranger Blues. I think managers are looking for personality and steadfastness above material. They want to trust whoever they hire to do a good show regardless. Our set list encompasses blues, early rock/roots, Americana, for the most part. Call it 40's to 70's pop in a way. Most of it is somewhat recognizable. Or maybe just appears to be!
We walk in and exude competence and confidence and show evidence to back it up. Our description includes everything from Buddy Holly to Buddy Guy to Pink Floyd.

Speaking of recent dates we had a kind of tough one Friday. Unlike the first monthly at the venue, in early June, this time we went in knowing we'd not be using amps or p.a. What we did not know was we were going to be stuck in a corner of the bar, away from most of the people, rather than on the stage in the dining area. We reached very few people. And we do this to engage the crowd, so it was not so good. We did the gig, played well, we did get a few props, even a tip, got paid and fed to boot. But the main guy was very abrupt and rude to us. It's a question if we'll play there again especially considering we have done half price so far. Non profit organization and all. It felt like the guy was scolding some kids who got caught smoking in the boys' room instead of addressing grown professional musicians. So we'll see. I'll be in tomorrow or Tuesday to see what can be done.

I'm guessing it's earlier in this thread but I don't know where. What was your previous experience at this venue like?

The first visit was in early June. It's a steak night gig, 5:30 to 8 pm. Dining room has a nice stage and we were told to bring amplification, which we did. Kept it as low as possible, yet one guest- who was seated right in front of us- complained about the volume for 2 hours. The folks in the back of the room were enjoying the show so we stayed plugged in. Nice tips, CD sales, and props from a lot of people told us we were doing good! When I went in the following week the barman told me about the complaint and that the post commander wanted us to play sans amps next time, which I agreed to. But we didn't expect to be in a corner away from pretty much 90% of the audience. The bar and dining room are separate and there is very little seating near where we were playing. We still did a good job.

All that might be okay except for the problems you seemed to have with the main guy. Sorry about that. Good luck!

Gigs come and go. Thanks. I popped into a BBQ today that warrants further contact. Local blues society rag on the counter. We'll stop in when it's not too busy.

So yesterday was devoted to staying cool, packing the tote boxes with gear, and a leisurely loadup for the gig at Blue Rose. The time came and we headed over- about 5 minutes from here, right on the Arkansas River. It was seriously humid after some afternoon showers but the folding dolly and straps made the load in as painless as possible. Ryan, manager at Blue rose, had a space cleared where we were to set up and I got busy and had everything ready to sound check 15 minutes before start time. Ryan is a very nice guy and great manager from what I could see during the evening. He was everywhere, delivering food, barbacking, bussing, and generally doing what needed done all the time. A real dynamo! We sound checked and relaxed for a few minutes before we started. Staff was nice and friendly and took care of us. We started off with a Jimmy Reed, speeded up a bit, and Jo sang. It got applause as did most of what we did over 3 sets. A SBII next and we were all in for the set. The place was about half full and we got good response, even one fat tip from a guy who had been dancing around between his appetizer and main course! The Rose was nice and cool thanks to great A/C. We still worked up a sweat but it was doing what we love, so no big thing. We continued through set 1 and took a break, then went back to it. Jo's Gibson guitar and her voice were in rare tip top form. My voice and some fresh Hohner MB Deluxes were sounding very good as well. We were 100+ %. Major good vibes going out the amps and PA! The second set was even better than the first since we were now warmed up. Again, good response from the audience and then a well-earned break. For the third set Jolene got out the old Regal guitar and we did a set of slide stuff, a lot of originals and a few covers. I snuck the volume up a bit since it sounded so GOOD! We blew the place up and had people coming over just to watch the phenomenon of Raw Real Right Now Roots and Blues. Always good to see that connection with the folks! First set: Baby What You Want Me To Do? Bring It On Home To You Down and Dirty (Orig) Backwater Blues Big Boat Summertime Katrina Blues (Orig) Boom Boom Out Go the Lights Love In Vain Tangled Up In Blue Set 2 Rock Me Daddy (Orig) Wait On Time Shake, Rattle and Roll The Evil That You Know (Orig) Not Fade Away Hoodoo Lady Grayways or Trailhound? (Orig) Hard Time Killin' Floor Blues New Stranger Blues Set 3 (Slide) South Out of Jville (Orig) Baby Cookin' (Orig) Goin' to the Delta (Orig) Gone Fishin' (Orig) High Maintenance Woman (Orig thanks Troy Alan Hall!) Roll and Tumble It went by too fast. At times I was almost not really there, I was in the Zone to where I hardly remember what we were doing, yet I knew we were totally nailing it. It was over. Time to break down, pack up, load out, get home. Jo went and got us paid and Ryan wants us back in September, maybe at the outdoor stage next door! Today we are still feeling that glow you get when you do something you love and you know it was a success. After the past 7 or 8 months we were somewhat off balance, between losing the Travel trailer, living in motels, the ill fated trip to Vegas, and finally resettling here in Tulsa and fighting off the flu. It has been an adaptation adventure, but last night we completely got our groove back all the way. We are very restored and looking for more music adventures nearby, and beginning to plan how to get back on the road next year. Stay tuned.

One glitch popped up yesterday. P.A. head is on the blink and had to been dropped off at a repair guy. Hopefully it's nothing major. I considered pulling the case apart myself but my history is not good with electronics. It took a small drop of maybe a foot. I'm thinking a wire came off a lug. Hope hope.
