Earle, call me an empty slate. This will be one big uphill trek but I think I can learn enough to at least be a pain in the butt!

Yeah, but, you strike me as the kind of guy who could pull it off. Just remember to let us all in on your progress, please. Whitefang

Roger that but if you hold your breath waiting Fang, you will turn blue. Well, to quote the great SLIP MAHONEY( who was the precursor to Norm Crosby)----- "I'll be waiting with bait breath!" Whitefang

Try one of the wifey's old guitars to learn slide on. When I did play slide on acoustic, I simply used my acoustic guitar, from a Guild dreadnought to my Ovations. it worked well that way. You can get a luthier to pop out the nut and glue on a little bit of small thin plastic thingies under the same nut and viola you have a slide guitar same with the saddle under the strings on the bridge, only a few pennies spent. If you get any good at it, then buy your resonator guitar.

Sadly, her one last guitar is a Gibson J15, which will go to finance my reso. I've fooled around a bit with a square neck vintage Regal. I think I can take on the challenge once I get the next guitar.

Your chromed brass link didn't work for me, but that mahogany ax looks nice. Some time ago I bought a cheap kid sized guitar with a "Magnum" brand decaled on the headstock. It belonged to my grandniece and because the neck is badly bowed she never bothered to play it so I gave her $5 for it(she got it for free somewhere) with the sincere intent on practicing slide. Since both the move in '11 and my mini stroke, I haven't kept up with it. But you are inspiring me to give it another go! And who knows........ If I do get good enough at it( by what standard, I'm not sure), I too might invest in a resonator. Just for the hell of it. Whitefang

You can get a less expensive reso. I see some for a couple hundred, no idea how good a quality but chances are you'd have a straight neck anyway.
This week I'm heading to GC to sell the Gibson. That should put me in position to buy.

What? Clicking on that took me to photos of five guitars. All different and with various prices.

Funny, I just clicked the link and yes there are other guitars listed BELOW the one posted. This one is a Dobro from 1932-34. Some wear and finish crackle. But looks playable and is described as such. So far no response on the offer I submitted yesterday which is almost expired.
Maybe iff you go to Ebay and put this in- eBay item number:163800956869
